You pride yourself on being a part of a progressive, conscientious Community Association. Adding a slide to the pool, building a new walkway through the gardens, and building a new playground for the neighborhood kids…your association is always making improvements. But, did you ever consider that your insurance does not cover these new projects?

You’ve taken the proper steps to build an additional structure such as obtaining a permit from the city, working within your allotted budget, and creating the perfect design.  Reviewing your insurance policy with your insurer is a very important step in the process. He or she can tell you if you need additional insurance for the structure.

If you add a slide to your community pool, does that increase the amount of coverage that you require in the case that someone gets hurt using it, or jeopardize your liability coverage entirely? Even changes to your landscaping such as a walkway or a retaining wall can affect your liability. These are questions that you need to ask your insurance agent.

If you are required to tear down a structure that already exists, you will want to have demolition coverage. This is not part of a standard policy. What if you get into the middle of demolition and you find asbestos? Or, in Florida, there is the possibility of hurricane damage. If one of your community buildings needs demolished due to storm damage, how will you pay for it? So, making sure that you add this to your existing policy is crucial when demolishing a building or structure on the property. And, in the case of hurricane prone areas such as Florida, covering demolition should be on your “must” list.

Don’t get into a situation where you THINK your existing policy covers your new renovations. KNOW if it does. Talk with us here at Centennial Insurance. We’ll make sure that your policy is updated with any new additions to your property. Call us today at 239-247-5125 to schedule an appointment or visit us at www.cisinsfl.com to request a quote
